Lt. Col. Robert "Uncle Bob" Leutz (1919-2018)

Lt. Col. Robert L. Leutz

Robert L. Leutz, 98, lifelong resident of Oak Harbor, OH passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018. He was born on November 15, 1919 to Leon H. and Merle Rose (Fritsche) Leutz. On June 24, 1942 in Oak Harbor he married Olelia F. Rhoda, and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2005, after 62 years of marriage. Bob was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during World War II and the Korean War, earning 1 Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, and 3 Purple Hearts. He was a member of the 29th Division that landed on the beaches of Normandy as part of the D-Day Invasion Force. Bob was a life member of the Reserve Officer Association of the United States and taught Reserve classes in Toledo for 20 years at the 2087ARASU. Bob retired from the military at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with 31 years of service credit. He was a lifelong farmer and worked at the Erie Army Depot as a carpenter. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and playing cards. Bob especially loved his family and following their accomplishments. Bob is survived by his son, John R. Leutz of Grandview Heights, OH, grandchildren, Mariah (Paul) Michas, Missy (Terry) Banaszak, Andrea (Nick) Roberts, Rob Leutz, and Julianna (David) Ells, great-grandchildren Landon, Alexis, Barrett, and Timothy, and close family friend and caregiver, Rhonda Bensch Biedlingmaier. Memorial services for Bob will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, OH with visitation 2 hours prior from noon – 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor with full military graveside honors. Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be given to the Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, OH, or to the 29th Division Association, P.O. Box 47634, Windsor Mill, MD 21244-0634.
