Julius Johannsen

This is another great picture shared by Richard Budd. This is a picture of Julius Johannsen, taken by photographer Petersen in Niebull.

Timeframe: Julius Johannsen lived in Germany from 1853 to 1871. He returned to Germany in 1883 for a visit and came back to the States with the woman that would become his wife. In 1871 he was 18 years of age. He was 30 when he returned to Germany for the visit. I could be all wet but I believe this man looks closer to 30 than 18. The slight lip at the seam of his coat is a trait seen in the clothing of the 1880's versus the clothing of the 1870's but with the clothing on men it is always hard to date.

Where It Fits: Julius Johannsen is the son of Wilhelm and Marie Christiansen Johannsen. In October of 1884 he married Caroline Japsen and they had nine children, William, Marie, Adele, August, John, Nelson, Lilly, Paul and Lawrence.

In History: Today Julius would be 157 and Florence Golden Hamshire would be 111.

Lilly Johannsen-Madison & Caroline

Here is another one of the lovely pictures Richard Budd shared with me. This is Lilly Madison and her daughter, Caroline.

Timeframe: Caroline was born in November, 1923. She looks to be about four to me so I am guessing this was taken in the summer of 1927 or there about.

Where It Fits: Lilly is the daughter of Julius Johannsen & Caroline Japsen. Lilly married Frank Madison and they are the parents of Caroline Carter.

In History: Today Lilly turns 113, Earl Carsten turns 111 & Leonard Hopfinger turns 141.

August & Anna Johannsen

This picture was shared with me by Richard Budd. It was labeled as August Johannsen & Anna Steffens. THANK YOU RICH!

Timeframe: They were married October 1, 1918 at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton, Ohio.

Where It Fits: August is the son of Julius Johannsen & Caroline Japsen. Anna is the daughter of Otto Steffens & Theresa Shilling.

Today In History: Today August Johannsen would have turned 120. Another birthday today is Merrill Rudes. . . he isn't 120. Unless you ask him before his coffee. :-) HAPPY BIRTHDAY UNCLE MERRILL!
